Togolese Navy

The Togolese Navy is highly operational and ensures 24/7 surveillance of the 55 km coastline. All naval units are based at the Port of Lomé (PAL).

The Togolese Navy, responsible for coastal surveillance, was initially organized following the French model. Until 1987, mixed French-Togolese crews operated its vessels, and its command was led by French officers until 1992. Although part of the sailors’ training is still conducted in France, the fleet has diversified since the 2010s with the acquisition of patrol boats and vessels from the United States and South Africa.

Since 2022, the Chief of Naval Staff has been Commander Atatoum Babaté
